Return to practice

Postby pharmaton » Thu Mar 04, 2010 12:18 pm

Hi all,
I am an ex-proprietor, manager & locum with 20 years experience in community pharmacy. I have been living abroad for the past 5 years, but now want to return to working part time as a locum. I have completed the "return to practice" course run by CPPE & have completed some accredited courses at CPPE, such as repeat dispensing, but not, as yet, MUR.

So far I have found it virtually impossible to find locum work in the East London area, most agencies require RECENT references plus EPS smart card & PCT accreditations which I still don't have despite several calls & emails to my local PCT. Is it also the case that you have to register with every PCT separately as there are 31 in London alone.

Calls to the RPSGB have been, so far, worthless with no advice other than to complete the CPPE course I have already done!! Thanks for that!

Looks like I'll have to do some volunteer work just to get my foot in the door, anyone need a Saturday boy on minimum wage or less?

Any suggestions welcome.

Cheers, Mike

Welcome, Mike.

Two things, firstly i would go round and talk to independent owners - agencies no doubt will have their own lists of wants, independents may be more willing to look at the individual locum pharmacist.

Secondly - please post this again on the discussion area, you will almost certainly get more replies.

I have fond memories of Watney St, King David Lane and Cambridge Heath Rd.
However, that was over 50 years ago.
